Students attend round table with tennis professionals

  • Secondary News

Three tennis-playing students – Pavlos K, Eleonore C and Anastasia S – attended a round table discussion involving tennis professionals, organised by the Spuerkeess, on Tuesday, 18th June, accompanied by Mrs Crowther and Mr Crick.

It was held in the beautiful ARBED building on avenue de la Liberté.

Retired Luxembourgish tennis professionals Gilles Muller and Mandy Minella were joined by French Paralympian tennis player Pauline Déroulède. Pauline Déroulède was hit by a motorist while on a pavement in 2018 and the accident resulted in her left leg being amputated. She has just competed in the wheelchair tennis at Roland Garros and will be representing France at the Paralympics in Paris this summer.

The discussion covered all aspects of the difficulties achieving the level of a professional tennis player – physical, mental and financial.  Also, the shock of the effects of a life-changing experience in the case of Pauline Déroulède. Questions were taken from the audience following the discussion.

As all three students play tennis with TC Spora, where Gilles Muller is a trainer, they know him well and had a brief chat with him during the reception which followed.
