Rugby players gain international experience
15 April 2026
Three teams from St George's competed in the Rosslyn Park Sevens, the world's largest school rugby tournament. The tournament was held in London from 23 to 27 March 2026 with more than 1,000 boys and girls aged 11 to 18 from 1,000 schools competing.

Under 16 girls
St George's Under 16 girls took their energy and enthusiasm to the next level on Thursday, 26 March 2026. Despite not winning any of their games, the girls impressed with their offloading and defence. A highlight was posing with the Women's Rugby World Cup.
The team has grown phenomenally over the last 18 months. Girls' rugby is in its infancy in Luxembourg and schools rugby does not exist. These girls have driven it forward themselves, from enjoying the sport in PE lessons, training regularly and playing against other teams from outside Luxembourg. There is no national team in Luxembourg at this level, but there is a girls' Under 16s team from St George's.
Team: Sophie G (captain), Sophie BW, Mia, Penelope, Lara, Emma, Enayah, Seren, Yael and Safirah.

Under 16 Boys
The Under 16 boys drew a challenging group with heavyweights from RGS Newcastle and Kirkham Grammer School. Their challenge was made greater taking on Maidstone Grammer, winners of the national cup held the week before. The match was held on the main exhibition pitch with the live commentary team. Although the young team did not win any of their three matches, there were many glimpses of potential.
Team: Grisha (captain), Oliver, Leon, Hamilton, Sean, Alex G, Alex D, Daniel and William.

Under 18 Boys
The Under 18s boys arrived in London in search of an elusive victory that would see them remembered as history makers. The task was monumental being drawn in a group with Worth School, Ysgol Bro Dur from Wales and Uppingham. Plenty of lessons were learned over the course of the day and the players showed a hunger to develop, despite three losses.
Francesco gave St George's something to cheer about as he scored and converted his own try from 90 minutes, much to the delight of the live commentary team.
Team: Arran (captain), Mathew, Joao, Francesco, Matteo, Gabriel, Freddie, Darcy, Jago and Marco.
