Admissions
We welcome new families and students throughout the academic year, space permitting.
It is important to us that every child feels a sense of belonging in our community. We want each student to feel welcomed, supported and ready to take part in school life with confidence.
As an inclusive school, we recognise that academic ability is only one part of the admissions process. This is why taster days and class visits are an invaluable part of our admissions process. They help us to understand how a prospective student settles with their class, interacts with their teachers and classmates, and engages with the curriculum. They also give children and families the opportunity to experience daily life at St George’s and imagine themselves as part of our community.
Children are not required to speak English before joining St George’s, although it can be a significant advantage. From the age of 5, it is helpful for children to have some basic English, together with a degree of independent literacy and numeracy skills. We offer English as an Additional Language (EAL) support and from 2027 will be introducing an Immersive English Programme in Primary.
Before applying, we recommend that parents arrange a meeting and school tour with our Admissions Officer.

What happens during Taster Days?
As part of the admissions process, Primary applicants attend a two-day class visit, giving them the chance to experience school life without formal assessment. Prospective Secondary students attend a class visit in the appropriate year group and complete assessments in literacy, numeracy and languages. These assessments help us ensure that each student joins the most appropriate teaching group within their year group. Secondary students also attend an informal interview that gives us the chance to get to know them better and allows them to ask any questions about St George's.
Parents are asked to bring their child to the reception area by 8:20 on the mornings of their taster days. Younger children will be accompanied to the Primary school, while Secondary students will be collected by a student buddy, who will take them to registration and help them settle into a full day of lessons.
