Soaking up history in Germany

11 March 2026

Students in Key Stage 3 took a step back in time during their four-day residential trip to Germany earlier in the month.

On day 1, the students explored Heidelberg's old town on a guided city tour before heading to its famous castle to enjoy stunning views and rich history. On day 2 the group visited the medieval town of Rothenburg ob der Tauber, wandering its charming streets and taking in the atmosphere. In the afternoon, they enjoyed a lively round of glow‑in‑the‑dark mini golf. The third day centred around Mannheim, where students stepped back in time at the Mannheimer Palace, trying on historical costumes and learning dances from past centuries. The day ended with a relaxing visit to Luisenpark, spotting ducklings, goslings and even penguins along the way. The group returned to Heidelberg on day 4 for two thought‑provoking museum visits: the Körperwelten exhibition, offering a fascinating insight into the human body; and the Friedrich Ebert Museum, which gave students a deeper understanding of German political history. It was a memorable trip packed with learning, laughter and experiences students won’t soon forget.
