Community Involvement
One of the many ways in which we prepare our students to thrive in a connected, diverse world is through community involvement.
Community work builds cultural awareness, social responsibility and teamwork, allowing students to make meaningful contributions to society while broadening their perspectives. We consider this more than an extracurricular activity, as it gives our students the opportunity to engage with the local Luxembourgish community and understand how we can all contribute to improving our physical and social environment. Community service provides opportunities to develop empathy and leadership, and deepens the way our students experience our core values.
Fundraising for charity
Raising money for charities and organisations that align with the school’s values is a key part of life at St George’s. Each year, students select the charities that they would like to support and decide how they will raise money and awareness. Events such as dress-up days, bake sales, mini markets, fun runs and the annual Summer Fayre are some of the ways in which students make a difference.
Volunteering
Every act of service, big or small, creates change. Our students have partnered with local and international organisations, worked on sustainability projects and supported humanitarian efforts, proving that young people are powerful agents of change. Our annual Soup Disco is one event that has a lasting legacy. Each year our Primary students grow vegetables, which are harvested and turned into soup. The soup-making is a festive event involving canteen staff, teachers and many, many students. Staff then transport the soup, along with handwritten well wishes and donated essential supplies, to a social bistro that provides meals for the less fortunate. The seeds from the vegetables are planted again to grow produce for the following year’s harvest and the cycle begins again.
Our students also ramp up their efforts during the festive period to spread cheer through singing carols at a local hospice and Christmas market. Also at this time, they run several gift-giving and donation campaigns. A collaboration with Amazon in 2024 provided food and essential supplies to charities across Luxembourg, while markets and other events held in school raise money to support those in need.
Spreading Awareness
Our students are passionate about local and global issues. We have an Amnesty International Club at St George’s to raise awareness of human rights internationally, while our Eco-Agents are enthusiastic, motivated individuals who make it their mission to raise awareness of how everyone can reduce their impact on the planet. Charities and organisations are regularly welcomed into school to share their work with students. Likewise, students use opportunities such as assemblies and class shows to teach their peers about the issues that matter to them.
