First and second for St George's
at Generation €uro

6 May 2026

St George’s economic students have placed first and second in the Generation €uro Student Award, a prestigious economics competition organised by the Banque centrale du Luxembourg.

After progressing through earlier written rounds, two St George's teams qualified for the Luxembourg national final, held at the Central Bank in Luxembourg.

At the final, each team took on the role of economists, presenting and justifying a monetary policy decision to a panel of central bank experts. The experience closely mirrored real policy-making at the European Central Bank, requiring students to analyse economic data, propose interest rate decisions and defend their reasoning under pressure.

The judges posed challenging and detailed questions, testing the teams’ understanding of inflation, growth and wider macroeconomic conditions. Despite the high level of difficulty, both teams performed exceptionally well.

Out of five finalist teams and 48 teams across Luxembourg, St George's students achieved an impressive first and second place, an excellent reflection of their hard work, analytical skills and confidence in presenting complex economic arguments.

The results were announced at an awards ceremony held at the Central Bank on 5 May The event recognised the achievements of all finalists and gave students the opportunity to engage with professionals working in economic policy.

As winners of the national competition, the top team received a two-week internship at the Banque centrale du Luxembourg as well as a study trip to Frankfurt, offering a unique insight into the work of European financial institutions.

This achievement highlights the strength of economics at St George’s and demonstrates the ability of students to apply their classroom learning to real-world policy challenges.
