Sport

Sport and physical education play a vital role in the holistic development of our students.

Through structured physical activity, we instill lifelong habits of health and wellbeing while fostering teamwork, resilience and leadership. Sport also helps students build a sense of community and make friends outside of their class.

Primary

In Primary, physical education is centred around developing fundamental movement skills, coordination and confidence. We provide a broad range of activities including ball games, gymnastics, dance and swimming. Our curriculum is designed to encourage participation, enjoyment and an active lifestyle while laying the foundation for our students to develop their interests and participation in a wide range of sports.

We introduce our Primary students to a range of team sports and play matches with other schools, including Michel Lucius, the International School of Luxembourg and other international schools in Luxembourg, as well as in international tournaments such as the Mediterranean Cup in Verona, Italy, an annual football tournament for children aged 10-19.

Secondary

Secondary students are given opportunities to follow their passions for different sports, refine their skills and compete at various levels. Our students are particularly active in football, basketball, volleyball, cricket and rugby. We emphasize strategic thinking, teamwork and personal goal setting, preparing students for both competitive and recreational sporting experiences.

For students who have more than a mild passion for sport and health, our BTEC in Sport offers a practical, career-focused qualification that blends theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience in the sports industry. This programme covers key areas such as sports coaching, anatomy and physiology, fitness training and sports psychology, equipping students with the skills needed for further education or careers in sports science, coaching, physiotherapy and event management.

Elsy Jacobs Building

Our newest building, named after renowned Luxembourgish cyclist Elsy Jacobs, will be operational from the 2025-2026 school year. The building has two full-size sports courts, changing facilities for four teams, a first-aid station, classrooms and more.

It is the first building in Luxembourg to be named after a female athlete and will increase the number of sporting opportunities and facilities not only for students of St George’s, but students, sportspeople and clubs in Luxembourg.
