Sustainability at St George's

We believe that educating students about sustainability is essential in preparing them for a rapidly changing world.

By integrating sustainable practices into our curriculum and daily operations, we empower students to think critically about environmental challenges, promote a sense of global responsibility and inspire positive change. Sustainability in education goes beyond reducing our ecological footprint. It cultivates compassion, resilience and innovation, equipping our students with the skills and values needed to build a greener, more equitable future for all.

Sustainability is not just something we teach at St George's – we live and breathe it.

Our students are passionate about protecting the planet, not just for current generations but for all who come after them. Across the school, students and staff look for ways to be more environmentally friendly, whether that's by having meat-free days in the canteen, sourcing sustainable stationery supplies, reducing paper use or installing sensors in classrooms that switch off lights when no motion is detected.

Our Sustainability Coordinator Anne-Marie McHugh, Sustainability Ambassadors James Dyson and Raquel Loureiro, and the student Eco-Agents work on environmental projects throughout the year, from building outdoor spaces for students to enjoy, to sorting and recycling used stationery, or dreaming up clever ways to be more sustainable. Sustainability is embedded across the curriculum for all year groups. In addition, students can further their interest through sustainability-focused Extra-Curricular Activities, such as the Repair Café, Sustainable Design Tech Eco Club and Kitchen Garden Club.
