Economics students visit Central Bank

4 March 2026

Year 12 economics students visited the Luxembourg Central Bank on 24 February 2026 in preparation for the Generation €uro competition. The annual initiative, run by the European Central Bank and national central banks across the euro area, challenges students to step into the role of monetary policymakers.

During the visit, students took part in a preparation session led by central bank staff, giving them insight into how interest‑rate decisions are made and how monetary policy supports economic stability.

Over the coming weeks, each student team will produce a 1,500‑word report in which they must analyse current economic conditions and recommend an appropriate monetary policy decision – just as the Governing Council of the ECB would. The top five reports from Luxembourg school entrants will progress to the final round, where students will present their analysis and decision to a panel of judges made up of central bank employees.

The competition is an exceptional opportunity for students to deepen their understanding of economics, develop analytical and research skills, and engage directly with real‑world policy issues. We are proud of their ambition and enthusiasm, and we look forward to seeing how far they will go in this year’s Generation €uro challenge.
