Paris trip a journey of culture and learning

  • Secondary News

Our recent school trip to Paris with the French Years 12 and 13 classes was a truly enriching experience. Over the two days, we had the opportunity to immerse ourselves in the city's culture, history and vibrant energy.

The adventure began with an engaging "cine-walk" through the 9th arrondissement, where we followed in the footsteps of renowned French filmmaker François Truffaut, discovering where he filmed the film “Les 400 coups”. Following this, we enjoyed an exclusive private visit to the global headquarters of UNESCO, where the students learned about the organisation's important work in education, science and culture. There, we were captivated by the impressive collection of artwork on display and the students were deeply inspired by UNESCO's powerful message of peace and global cooperation.

One of the culinary highlights of the evening was dinner at the historic Bouillon Julien, a beautifully preserved restaurant from the early 20th century, originally created to serve the hardworking market labourers of the time and where the iconic singer Edith Piaf used to eat. After dinner, we attended a powerful theatrical adaptation of Dead Poets Society, bringing the spirit of the film to life on stage.

The second day brought even more excitement, starting with a guided tour of the Louvre Museum. The students admired and learned about five of the museum’s most renowned masterpieces, including the Mona Lisa, the Venus de Milo, and the Winged Victory of Samothrace. Later, we savoured traditional Breton galettes, adding a delicious regional touch to our Parisian adventure.

Finally, we took part in  a community cleanup of the Palais Royal neighbourhood. It was a wonderful way to give back to the city while learning about the importance of civic responsibility.

All of this happened under bright, sunny skies, making the experience even more enjoyable. The students returned with newfound knowledge and memories that will undoubtedly enrich their academic journey.
