Big weekend of rugby against Frankfurt

26 November 2025

St George's participated in its first block rugby fixture at Under 14, Under 16 and Under 18 level against Frankfurt International School.

The Under 14s, skippered by Kevin in Year 7, delivered an entertaining 67-50 victory over FIS.

The Under 16s match was a physical affair, with Sufian setting the tone from the first kick off. End-to-end action, with no kicking, we had basketballers, footballers and gym goers under those bright lights only to stumble at the end. It was an agonising 26-19 loss, but as with the Under 14s there were still plenty of smiling red faces.

Onto the main event and a large and vocal crowd gathered to follow our sea of red. There was plenty of support from other schools, all eager for a big collision. The Sixth Form committee set up camp and added to the atmosphere with the soft drinks and Nutella crepe stand.

The physicality of the match shocked us into gear at the start. The opposition was direct and well conditioned, but chaos was our ally. A few missed tackles saw us punished from deep, we fought to the end but ultimately went down 49-14. Not bad at all for St George's first match at Under 18 level. Mathew and Adam scored our tries.

Our attention now turns to the girls who will play on Saturday, 6 December, at the Stade de Luxembourg prior to the Men's Senior International vs Estonia. Kick off is at 15:00 and they will also play at half time.
