Journey to Ancient Egypt
19 November 2025
Year 3 will journey back in time to Ancient Egypt this half-term to explore how the natural world – the sun, land and river – shaped one of the earliest civilisations.
Through our enquiry, students will take on the role of archaeologists, scientists and geographers, uncovering how the environment influenced every aspect of Egyptian life, from farming along the Nile to the creation of tombs and temples that aligned with the sun.

In their learning this week, the children worked in ‘settlement groups’ to build the start of civilisations along the Nile River, which was physically mapped out in their classrooms. They had to decide where to build their homes, farms and temples. The teachers asked lots of questions, ensuring the children were considering all aspects of life in that period and could justify decisions they made. Conversations were rich and thoughtful, demonstrating the children’s detailed knowledge of the content taught so far. Crucially, the students had an amazing time while they were learning and were eager to share all they had done. What a brilliant start to our new topic for Understanding the World.
