The auditorium was buzzing with excitement as Year 5 students took to the stage for their much-anticipated poetry slam, showcasing their creative talents inspired by the book Escape from Pompeii and their studies on the Ancient Romans.

Over the past few weeks, Year 5s have been diving deep into Roman history, exploring the dramatic story of Pompeii’s destruction. Their learning culminated in a series of powerful poems that captured the emotion, drama and vivid imagery of the disaster.

The poetry slam was a true celebration of expression and performance. Students delivered their poems with fantastic energy, using gestures, voice modulation and even dramatic pauses to bring their words to life. Some poets teamed up to perform in duets, adding a dynamic twist to the event and showcasing impressive collaboration.

The standard of poetry was exceptionally high, with thoughtful language and strong imagery. From the rumbling of Mount Vesuvius to the panic in the streets of Pompeii, each poem painted a unique picture of the ancient tragedy.

A huge well done to all our Year 5 poets for their creativity, courage and flair. You truly brought Pompeii to life.
