Popular children's author David Walliams brings festive cheer to St George's

4 December 2025

Renowned British children’s author and comedian David Walliams delighted students with a fun and interactive show at St George’s International School, Luxembourg on Thursday, 4 December 2025.

Mr Walliams was in the Grand Duchy for the first time as part of a tour promoting one of his latest books Santa & Son, which was released in October. He visited St George’s to speak with students about his life, story writing and the inspiration for his 44 books. He also handed out signed copies of Santa & Son and took time to visit classrooms and talk to students about their studies.

St George’s Primary Librarian Gillian McLeod, who arranged the visit, said she was ecstatic to welcome the author. “David Walliams’ books are among the most popular in our Primary school library, so having him come to speak with our students is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity,” Mrs McLeod said.

“The students were glued to their seats as he talked openly about his writing and the people behind some of his characters, and performed sections from some of his most popular books. For many this was a dream come true – that is how much they love his books,” Mrs McLeod said.

Mr Walliams gave students tips to improve their own writing, such as starting with a subject that interests them and not limiting their imaginations. He explained that in children’s book writing, often the craziest and silliest ideas were the best.

St George’s Principal Zeba Clarke said hosting an author of Walliams’ popularity was an honour and an inspiration for students. “Every year we arrange visits with poets, illustrators, storytellers and novelists. It’s vital to bring stories to life for our students and they become even more invested in reading. Reading is so critical for long-term wellbeing and success. The chance to hear writers and illustrators share what inspires them, their processes and how they came to do this job gives our students more respect for their own reading and writing. Often the guests pass on fantastic tips and ideas to inspire the next generation of authors and that is certainly what happened today,” Mrs Clarke said.

The show ended with a Q&A session and the opportunity for students and staff to have their photographs taken with the author.

David Walliams’ books have sold more than 60 million copies worldwide and his work has been translated into 55 languages. His bestsellers include Gangsta GrannyMr Stink and the World’s Worst series.
