Year 4 students celebrate Viking Day

15 October 2025

Year 4 celebrated Viking Day on Friday, 10 October, as part of their humanities topic on the Vikings. The day provided an excellent opportunity for pupils to deepen their understanding of Viking life through a range of creative and engaging activities.

Students and teachers arrived dressed in their finest Viking costumes, helping to create an authentic and immersive atmosphere. Throughout the day, pupils took part in various themed activities, including making Viking jewellery, playing Viking-inspired board games, straw weaving and designing their own runestones. Viking and Norse music played in the background, adding to the experience, and each pupil proudly wore a name badge displaying their newly chosen Viking name.

A particular highlight was seeing the children use the impressive shields they had created as part of their homework – these made perfect props as they enthusiastically took on their Viking roles. The classes also enjoyed watching a short clip from Horrible Histories to complement their learning in a fun and memorable way.

By the end of the day, the children had not only gained a deeper knowledge of Viking history but had also demonstrated great enthusiasm and creativity.
