Young musicians showcase skills at COBIS Music Festival

  • Secondary News

Music students in Years 10 to 13 attended the COBIS Music Festival in Qatar where they competed in drums, strings and voice competitions, showcasing their skills and passion for music, and learning about Qatari culture and customs.

The three-day competition, from 7 to 9 February, also included workshops, ensembles, jazz and vocal performances and a thrilling battle of the bands.

Year 13 student Crystal G, who competed in the Worldwide COBIS Composition Competition received a commendation from the adjudicators, who hailed her the "next upcoming Björk". This was a significant honour, as only two commendations were given.

Outside of the competition, the students visited Doha Quest indoor theme park, where they rode in the back car of one of the world's fastest roller coasters and screamed with a mix of fear and delight. They also toured the National Museum to learn about Qatar's history, and visited a mosque, camel farm and night market where they ate local food.
