St George's under 18 girls volleyball and boys football teams kicked off the sporting season winning all five games in tournaments at the British School of Brussels over the weekend.
Varsity Girls Volleyball
It was a sun-drenched day with teams from 12 schools on site. The Varsity Girls Volleyball Team kicked off the season with some friendly matches hosted by the British School of Brussels. The girls had a successful day competing against the International School Eindhoven and Saint John's School, Brussels. The girls won both games comfortably in two sets.
The teams were junior varsity level, however it was a great opportunity for the girls to sample different positions on court and get used to playing competitively again. We look forward to the season and playing varsity teams later in the year.
The team: Camilla C (captain), Anna M, Polina F, Maria BG, Martina CG, Sofia B, Flaminia M, Penelope N and Paloma CB.
Boys Under 18 Football
The boys had similar success from their three games. We brought a large squad comprising of Years 10, 11 and 12 students and they managed to win every game.
They first beat EJM of France 4-0, before squeezing past ISB (Bonn) by 2-1. Our final game was a mismatch as we ran out 7-1 winners against ISH from Netherlands. The boys conducted themselves excellently and will use this as a springboard for future competitions.
The team: Diego L (captain), Michael WJ, Max M, Fausto M, Francesco S, Arran S, Cai BR, Daniel DDF, Oscar R, Alexander G, Alexander K, Andrea B, Gabriele B, Benjamin P, Lorenzo DM and Sufian D.
St George's won five games from five and the girls taught the boys a lesson in a volleyball friendly during the break.
