Year 7 students celebrate World Book Day

Year 7 started their World Book Day celebration with a book-themed fancy dress competition. There were several eye-catching costumes including Violet Baudelaire from A Series of Unfortunate Events, Athena goddess of war, Skullduggery Pleasant, Mario and Giuseppe, an Oompa-Loompa from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and a group entry of the bunnies from “Peter Rabbit”.

The afternoon brought a series of activities based on the novel Friend or Foe by Michael Morpurgo. In house groups, students drew illustrations for a graphic novel, wrote newspaper articles, letters and diary entries describing the experiences of Davey and Tucky as they leave London to escape the Blitz, see a German bomber crash on the moor and befriend two airmen. There was a lively discussion about leaving a big city like London and moving to a farm in the Devon countryside with no electricity, running water or indoor toilet.
