Music library adds to inspirational environment

  • Music

A library has been set up in the Individual Music Lesson Department giving students access to a carefully curated collection of engaging and inspiring books.

Among the collection is Because by Mo Willems, which tells a beautiful story of how a single event can lead to a lifelong passion for music. Sing a Song by Kelly Starling Lyons celebrates the history and impact of the song "Lift Every Voice and Sing," inspiring young readers to appreciate the power of music in social change and the importance of diverse voices. The Girl Who Heard the Music by Marni Fogelson introduces children to the world of classical music through the eyes of a young girl who discovers her own musical talent, highlighting the importance of inclusion in the arts.

The Bear and the Piano by David Litchfield is a heartwarming tale about a bear who finds a piano in the forest and becomes a celebrated musician, teaching children about the joy of following their dreams and the value of embracing different talents and backgrounds. Zin! Zin! Zin! A Violin by Lloyd Moss introduces children to the instruments of the orchestra in a fun and engaging way, promoting an appreciation for different musical sounds and teamwork. Sound: Shh… Bang… Pop… Boom! by Romana Romanyshyn and Andriy Lesiv explores the science of sound in a visually stunning and accessible manner, making it a great addition to any inclusive music program.

"Sometimes music lessons can be exhausting, so teachers often give children a few minutes to rest," said Dr Fearghal O'Connor, St George's Music Coordinator. "This library, with its range of books for young students to older students, allows them to take a break while still being surrounded by a musically educational environment. These books not only entertain but also educate young readers about the transformative power of music and the importance of diversity, equality and inclusion in our world."
