Ms Simmonds' highlights
2024-2025
2 July 2025
It’s hard to believe that we are at the end of the academic year and that the summer holiday is nearly upon us. The summer term is without doubt one of the busiest in the year!
Year 11 and Year 13 examinations are complete and all the hard work, dedication and commitment shown by these students must be recognised and congratulated. Students can now take a well-earned break and enjoy the celebrations that come with this. We had fantastic graduation and celebration events, as well as the annual Prom to celebrate the end of the students’ time with us. We wish our Years 11, 12 and 13 students an enjoyable summer break and eagerly await their results in August.
I know this letter is quite lengthy but please take the time to read it carefully. It contains the arrangements for the end of term, the start of next term and provides you with some key updates and useful information.
Head Teacher Highlights
As we reflect on the year, there have been many memorable moments. Here are a few that stand out:
Christmas Shoebox Appeal
In December 2024, our whole school community came together for the Christmas Shoebox Appeal. Staff, students, and families collaborated to donate over 800 shoeboxes filled with essential items to local charities. This initiative fostered empathy, generosity, and a strong sense of community among our students.
Alternative Curriculum Development
This year marked significant progress in our Secondary School’s curriculum. We introduced a broader offer that includes International BTECs, the Higher Project Qualification (HPQ), and Extended Project Qualification (EPQ). These additions provide more inclusive pathways beyond traditional GCSEs and A Levels.
Parent Collaboration
Our partnership with parents has grown stronger through initiatives such as our three Open Door events, which welcomed around 100 visitors. Student led tours and curriculum showcases received excellent feedback, particularly for offering insight into daily school life. We also hosted 18 themed coffee mornings covering topics from curriculum updates to digital learning, further deepening our engagement with families.
Personal Development Newsletter
We’re pleased to share the latest edition of our newsletter (here), highlighting recent initiatives in school and offering useful information and guidance for students and families.
Student Mobile Phones
I would also like to take this opportunity to update you on our mobile phone protocol from September (here). In line with recent guidance issued by the Ministry of Education in Luxembourg, which supports stricter regulation of mobile phone use in schools, we will be reinforcing our expectations around student mobile phone use during the school day.
Staff Farewells
As is usual at this time of year, we will be saying farewell to some of our staff as they move onto to new chapters:
- Mrs Radcliffe, Head of Humanities Faculty, is retiring after 18 years at St George's
- Ms Pantoulia, SENCO, has taken up the role of Head of Learning Support closer to her home and family
- Mr Mkrtchyan, Computing Teacher, has come to the end of his one-year contract and Ms Ganea returns from parental leave in September
I’d like to take this opportunity to say thank you to each of them for their commitment and dedication, hard work and support they have given to all our students, in many cases over a number of years.
Later in August, I will write to parents with a detailed staffing update ahead of the new academic year. We’ve been busy over the past few weeks recruiting new staff and I look forward to sharing the news with you.
