Six members of St George's Debate Club competed in the annual Sir Winston Churchill European Debating Competition in Bucharest in November.
Over four days Franek, Malou, Mila, Marta, Jodie and Kosma debated topics such as misinformation, gated communities, free education, threats to democracy and the use of AI in the 21st century. The competition featured 16 schools from across Europe and involved a lot or preparation time as well as actual debating matches.
St George’s performed exceptionally well considering none of the team had any prior competition experience. They finished in sixth place overall, winning two debates, drawing one and losing one.
Accompanied by debating coach Mr Todd and Ms Pantoulia, the students also explored Bucharest, visiting the Old Town and Presidential Place as well as partaking in the competition dinner at a traditional Romanian restaurant.
Well done to all the students! You represented the school and Luxembourg with dignity and fortitude, and can be very proud of your achievements.
