Celebrating National Day with science
18 June 2025
Year 8 students have been learning about fluids during science lessons. To celebrate National Day on 23rd June, they used their knowledge of density to create the Luxembourg's flag in a beaker.
Water, sugar, food colouring and milk were used to make three solutions with different densities. Students explained how the mass of sugar affects the density of each solution, and how less dense fluids can float on more dense fluids.
Pipettes were used to carefully add each solution to a beaker. The coloured solutions were layered in the same order as the flag of Luxembourg. Tipptopp!
