Echoes of Anne Frank: Exploring refugee stories in Luxembourg

4 June 2025

Primary students engaged in a powerful interdisciplinary day of learning, organised by St George's Luxembourgish teacher Isabelle Frisch-Koopmans and DEIJ Coordinator Michael Neumann. The day explored themes of war, resilience and inclusion through the lens of Anne Frank’s story, refugee experiences and their relevance in Luxembourg today.

The day began with a screening of Wou ass d'Anne Frank?, followed by thoughtful discussions and reflections connecting Anne’s experiences to World War II and the emotions the film evoked. Students deepened their understanding through Luxembourgish language work, writing diary entries inspired by Anne’s voice.

In the afternoon, a local guest speaker shared lived experiences of being a refugee, helping students draw connections between historical displacement and the realities faced by refugees today. The day concluded with collaborative art projects and a closing circle, where students reflected on what they had learned and how they can support inclusive communities.

The experience brought together history, language, creativity and justice in one powerful learning journey.
