Students share their excitement after an out-of-this-world trip
26 November 2014
Students in Year 7 spent four days at the Euro Space Center in Transinne, Belgium at the beginning of November to learn about space, exploration and astronomy. There was a lot of educational content and much learning was done through first-hand experience in solo activities and in various team building exercises. They were also able to bond well as a year group and make many great memories.
Check out their feedback!
"I really enjoyed the trip this year. I thought this was the best school trip so far. I especially enjoyed the multi-axis chair and building rockets, although I enjoyed the launching part a lot. I thought that the quiz was also great because there was a lot of team work. I also learnt a lot about space from the tour, when we had the briefings and also other talks. I thought it was great that we had learning sessions and also fun activities such as the spinning chair, micro-gravity wall climbing, mission and moonwalk." - Archisha
"My favourite activity was the gravity wall. It was fun going up and down and hanging in mid air. It was also fun to try and find the right combination to fix the satellite." - Emma
"I really enjoyed the space center. My favourite exercise was the part where you had to build the satellite while feeling no gravity. I really enjoyed it. I enjoyed lots of other activities for example the launching of the rockets, the multi axis chair and the mission. Everything was fun there!!!" - Laurent
"I really enjoyed the whole trip but my favourite activity was the micro gravity wall and the mission. I also really liked the rooms that we stayed in as they were very spaced and comfortable. Although, I didn’t really like the food as there was a limited amount for vegetarians!" - Rashi
"I liked the mission and I also enjoyed launching the rockets even though mine got stuck in a tree. My favourite activity was building the rockets." - Katherine
"My favourite activity is the astronomy where we could see and understand more about our universe." - Sharon
"I really loved every single thing. I mostly enjoyed the gravity wall, the mission, the multi access chair, the moon walk, the role play in the bedrooms and watching the movie Apollo 13. I think we should do it again. The food was OK, but I loved the meatballs and French fries. The dorms were great. I found the trip a bit too short and would have loved to stay a full week." - Wesley
"When I went to the space center, what was my favourite was the anti-gravity wall simulator. That was really fun, and it gave the sensation of being weightless. I also liked it because it conquered my fear of heights, or at least reduced my fear of heights." - Oliver
"It was an amazing experience, we learnt about satellites and planets in our solar system. We all had to cooperate in our rooms to adapt to peoples' lifestyles. Overall it was a fun and interesting trip." - Madeleine
"I really liked the gravity wall because we could float without falling down. They did this by putting an amount which weighed the same as you which could make you float. The task was to use some cables to fix a satellite, we did this with a partner. I also really liked the space mission because I got to be in the space shuttle which was really cool and fun. I would like to go back again!" - Maud
"I really enjoyed the trip. My favourite things were the wall because I love climbing and working out the pattern so that the satellite would light up and my other favourite thing was the mission because I really enjoyed seeing how it all worked as well as working as a team. The multi-axes chair was great fun and a good challenge. I loved all of it!" - Katie
"When we went to the Euro Space Centre, I really enjoyed the multi-axis chair because it spun around in all directions and we had to draw a shape to stop ourselves from getting too dizzy. I also enjoyed the gravitational wall where they find out your body weight, then they put water into a barrel equalling your weight and then you can go up the wall and you have to repair a satellite. I enjoyed it because it was a good feeling to just float. I loved the food they had there and after meal times we could go outside and play in the playground. I liked having very big rooms so we could have loads of friends in there." - Louis
"I think everybody enjoyed the mission, and nobody fought over jobs or complained. Everybody was very patient, and everything was right on track. The multi-axis was amazing, thrilling and exciting but it was super difficult to trace in 45 seconds of spinning in all directions! I was freaked out of the wall at first because I'm scared of heights, but I overcame my fear and it turned out to be so cool! I learned so much about science while doing the experiments. I am actually pleased that I got most of my hypotheses wrong because that made it even more interesting for me." - Emma M.
"I really liked the space centre trip and my favourite part was the Wall Of Gravity because it felt like you were in space and I also loved the Multi-axis chair. I also liked the planetarium because the facts were really interesting. For instance, how to locate other stars from the Plough. I wasn't overly keen with the fact that the toilets weren't inside our rooms and that you had to wait for other people. Overall I had a fantastic time there and I had a great experience." - Emma S.
"I really liked the European Space Center because all the activities were fun, especially the spinning chair and the moonwalk with the Oculus Rifts!! I also loved the launching of the rockets especially when one of the rocket’s parachutes didn’t come out and it went (nose first) into the ground. But the most fun activity of all was the multi-axis chair, as it was really hard to draw on the lines when you were on the chair. After the spinning chair (if you had your head down), you would feel as if you were doing flips going towards the left. I also liked when we were building the rockets as it was very technical and you had to be extremely careful and accurate to where you were putting the equipment in the rocket." - Charles
