Students receive Prix Victor Hugo awards

24 April 2024

Two St George's Secondary students received prizes of the Prix Victor Hugo, organised by the French Institut and the Victor Hugo asbl.

Year 12 student Naomi T placed 4th and Year 11 student Ivan K received the "prix mention spéciale du Jury" at an awards ceremony on 27th March.

The educational objective of the Victor Hugo Prize is to encourage creativity on a given theme and to promote the appropriation of the French language through the game of writing.

Each year, the Ministry of Culture proposes a list of 10 words to the French-speaking community, known as "dis-moi dix mots" so that everyone can play and express themselves around the theme of these words. This year they were related to the Olympics 2024.

The French Ambassador opened the Residence of France for the awards ceremony.  The Ambassador opened the ceremony with an inspiring speech, describing the multiculturalism and the multilingualism of Luxembourg as well as the importance of the Francophonie.  Two known Luxembourgish authors – Jean Portante and Ian de Toffoli – who were part of the jury were present at the ceremony.

The students, after receiving their prize, were able to look around the beautiful salons of the residence and have some refreshments.

This is a great achievement for our students who are officially part of the Francophonie and who will remember this special ceremony.
