St George's eco-agents plant trees to help mitigate climate change

24 January 2024

Last week, St George's eco-agents planted trees in school as part of their partnership with Sports Uganda UK and to honour the efforts carried out by the Lukango Tree Conservancy in Uganda: https://lutreeco.com/

Sports Uganda aims to engage, empower young people and stakeholders in an ecosystem that encourages and enables enterprise to thrive. Working with partners on the ground in Uganda, they create convergence points for young people to engage in their principle learning method – through play! Through global partnerships Sports Uganda UK, procure sports and learning kit that empowers local community actors to take the initiative in these community transformation efforts. St George’s eco-agents are working to collect and donate sports equipment through this partnership.

The Lukango Tree Conservancy focuses on providing education to children and distributing seedlings for the cultivation of native endangered species in Uganda. Additionally, Lukango collaborates with the UK-based organization SportsUganda Ltd., through the Tree-Go-twin conservation programme.

This innovative programme involves children in Uganda participating in the planting and nurturing of trees, subsequently connecting them with global partners like St George's. The goal is to foster collaborative care for seedlings, enabling them to mature into trees, whether it's within the local context of Uganda or as far-reaching as Luxembourg.

Our shared belief is that through collective efforts, we can contribute to mitigating the impact of climate change, aligning with SDG3, SDG 4 and SDG 13.
