Oo La La! A spectacular performance by Year 5

04 April 2014

Year 5 students put on a thoroughly entertaining performance in Hamilius Hall. The French play ‘Oo La la!’, adapted and written by Mrs Skinner and the Year 5 students, was St George’s first ever bilingual play. The show, which featured a series of different sketches interspersed with fun French facts, kicked off in an imaginative way with 5 street dancers creating an innovative beat using bin bags, broom sticks and bins. The tongue-in-cheek exploration of French culture had everyone in fits of laughter. The singing was a delight to hear, as were the live-on-stage student musicians.

Bruno and Ella did a fantastic job at playing the roles of Basil and Rosemary, a stereotypical middle-aged English couple attempting to speak French whilst on holiday. Despite the efforts of the very courteous maître d’ Louis (played by Mateo), the couple erroneously received two pigs on a platter (cochons) rather than cushions for their uncomfortable seats! A street artist (played by Amin) also delivered an emotional vocal solo after getting a slap on the face for creating an unflattering portrait of his model Chantal (played by Zoe).

The dancing, singing, original music (adapted by Mr Heley and Mr Reilly), jokes, costumes and scenery made a unique and whimsical show of which the students can be very proud! Oo La La!
