Message from the Primary Headteacher 2024

17 December 2024

Dear Parents,

It’s the most magical time of the year, and the Primary section is alive with festivities and special events. One of the lovely things about children at St George’s is their willingness to give back. It is not always easy to make a positive contribution when you are small, but our children work hard to make a difference. Students in Year 6 have been beavering away to create their annual Christmas market for the younger children – the classrooms (markets) were alive with gifts – homemade and donated – children were busy face painting and wrapping as the younger students toured their stalls. A grand total of €604 was raised for the Luxembourg Red Cross.

A touching event was the Year 4 and Secondary students singing to the residents of the local hospice. The residents are always thrilled to hear the children sing, and love to join in to Leiwe Kleeschen. We are always delighted to be invited and to contribute to the local community.

In other parts of the school the shoe box appeal has been impressive. Primary children joined in force to contribute to this important appeal. It was touching to see the little elves pack up all the boxes to be delivered to a number of charities in Luxembourg. We know it will make a great difference.

The International Winter Concert hit the magical brief, with children sharing stories of their celebrations and experiencing the joy and togetherness highlighted by the diverse talents of our students. Some homemade mince pies and a glass of warm Glühwein for parents also hit the spot.

It was wonderful to see the school community come together on Saturday to join the Year 6 choir singing at the Winterlights stand in Place Guillaume. The singing was as impressive as it was eclectic. Representatives of Luxembourg Ville commented that it was a superbly unorthodox set. We loved hearing the children sing about an alien for Christmas!

And of course, Christmas is not Christmas until we see our youngest children witness the magic of the season. In EYFS the team transformed the canteen into a stunning Winter Festival, with beautiful activities for the children and parents to join in, complete with hot chocolate and marshmallows. And finally, our Year 1 students stole the show with a sophisticated performance of Gnome Alone. The singing, dancing and incredible acting were worthy of a West End show.

Despite all the fun and festivities, our children continue to work exceptionally hard. Last week we held a staff meeting to celebrate the students’ work. As we walked around each class it was almost impossible to believe the quantity, scope and quality of work.

We are very proud of all of our students at St George’s, and we know you are too. I would like to wish you all a fantastic holiday, a wonderful rest and an exciting new year.

Best wishes,

Claire Nuttall
