Celebrating Our 25th St George's Day

27 April 2016

Monday 25th April was a particularly special day at St George’s – the school celebrated its 25th St George’s Day! Over 40 guests were welcomed to help us celebrate this longstanding tradition. The event commenced with a poignant speech from our Principle, Dr Barkei, who spoke of how much the school has flourished and the progress that has been witnessed since 'its humble beginnings within rented accommodation in 1990'. He had the pleasure of introducing His Excellency the (newly appointed) Ambassador of Britain to Luxembourg, John Marshall. It was Mr Marshall’s first visit to the school and he expressed his gratitude for being formally invited to become our patron. Our Year 13 Head Boy and Head Girl shared their positive experiences of the school and expressed their appreciation for how much the school has catered to their educational needs over the past decade; they also spoke of the university offers they have received and look forward to the new chapter of their lives in attending university later this year.

Year 5 performed uplifting excerpts from their musical ‘The Junk Yard Band,’ singing and dancing to such classics as ‘Car Wash’, ‘Hot Love’ and ‘Thank you for the Music.’ This was extremely well received and put a smile on everybody’s face.

In a fashion reminiscent of previous years, the event was topped off by our very talented Primary students serenading our friends during a quintessential Afternoon Tea.

Throughout the day Primary students had their own individual tea parties in their classrooms which consisted of the usual scones, jam tarts, jelly, cucumber sandwiches and homemade lemonade.

Secondary students along with Year 6 students, as part of Transition Day, enjoyed their version of St George’s day outside on the Friday before.

St George’s would like to thank everyone who took part in St George's day - it was a delight to see so many friendly faces. We would also like to say well done to all our staff and students for their hard work in making this St George’s Day so memorable.

Below you will see an excerpt from Year 5's performance and a photo gallery.
