Year 9 Residential Trip – Skiing in Frauenalpe, Austria

10 March 2015

Last week Year 9 students had four fantastic days of skiing in the small Austrian resort of Frauenalpe. They were lucky enough to have some fresh snow fall on the first day of skiing, which set up the rest of the week perfectly in terms of snow conditions. The students were then fortunate enough to have sunshine and clear blue skies for the rest of the week to enjoy their time on the almost empty Frauenalpe slopes.

They had some incredible skiers within the year group, however this was also a completely new experience for over half of the students as they had never skied before. There was a range of ability groups and instructors so all students were able to develop their skills to a higher level.

All students made good progress over the week, the most noticeable certainly came from the beginners – a large number of whom managed to progress from the nursery slope to blue runs and some even attempted some red runs by the end of the week!

The evenings were filled with a range of activities, for those who had the energy, including basketball, football, table tennis, bowling and a disco.

Staff and students certainly appeared to have enjoyed the trip and everyone certainly improved their skiing techniques, let’s hope the students will get the opportunity to ski more in the future and keep enhancing their skiing techniques.

Here are a few photos from the trip:
