Year 7s step into action
08 December 2021
It was a tight race to the top three in this year’s Step Off Championships on Friday, 3rd December, when the teams gave their all in the name of rhythm.
Step is a form of body percussion derived from South African gum boot dancing. It combines elements of rhythm and percussion, made only with the body.
The judging panel consisted of Mr Miller, Mr Perez, Mrs Taylor, Mr O’Connor and head judge Mr Fleet, along with a Year 8 class voting for the Students' Choice winners.
Teams were judged in four categories, including disciplined movement, display of at least three syncopated polyrhythms, formation, and creativity.
This was Miss Bloom’s third Step Off competition with her Year 7 groups and it did not disappoint. All participants in the finals were awarded merits for their efforts and the top three teams received prizes. All of the groups were incredible and deserve congratulations.
