Ukrainian Refugee Gift Appeal Thank You

13 December 2022

A couple of weeks ago, we sent out an appeal for gifts and donations which would go to the children at the Ukranian refugee centre in Kirchberg. The results have surpassed anything we ever imagined. Not only were we able to get every child and teenager at the centre a gift for this Christmas, but we received more than the quantity we needed, ensuring that we will also have backup gifts for any new arrivals. As such, the Sixth Form Community Team would like to thank the families at St George’s and the wider community.

Standing in front of the large pile of gifts that has been put together, we couldn’t help but smile at what we, as a community, have achieved. This Christmas, thanks to all of your effort and generosity, the children at the centre will know that they have not been forgotten by the country that has welcomed them during their time of crisis (or by Santa!). We have managed to collect a range of gifts, including games, dolls, lots of lego and crafts sets among other things, ensuring that there is a gift for every child.

On top of that, we have received a grand total of €3,080 which we used to buy presents as well as gift vouchers and chocolate for the children. We would also like to thank the members of the community team for all of their hard work, the other sixth form students who helped with the wrapping as well as the teachers and parents who contributed much of their time to the cause, including our Director of Sixth Form, Mrs Roe.

What for us is a story on the news, is an unimaginable reality for the children at the centre. We understand that a gift may not solve all of their problems, but we believe that it will give them hope and remind them that we continue to stand with them. None of this would have been possible without your help and generosity, so once more, from all of us, thank you!
