The Golden Stars, De Gëllene Stäre

19 November 2018

St George’s Secondary students put on a fabulous production of The Golden Stars, De Gëllene Stäre, a musical theatre piece co-written by Mrs Ni and a group of KS4 & 5 students.

The production took place in the Auditorium with all the usual seating folded back, restaurant tables and chairs were set up for the audience to sit in the midst of the performance, creating a genuine feel of a Jazz club.

The play set during WW2 focused on a skanky NYC Jazz bar called the Kat Klub where soldiers hang out while waiting to be deployed. The soldiers spirits are kept up by a group of USO girls (part of the civilian entertainment corps in the USA).

After deployment to Luxembourg, the soldiers support the local children (Secondary Choir) and their teacher as they put their lives back together. This includes one of the soldiers, Jack, teaching one of the boys, Marcel, to drum. Jack returns to NYC and 15 years later, Marcel meets Jack again while he is touring with his jazz group.

From the live music performances to the hair & make-up students wowed their audience. Well done to all the students and staff for putting together this fantastic production!
