This Year’s Step Off competition in Year 7 was the highest skill level we have seen yet in four years. Students spent 4 weeks learning about note values, polyrhythms, syncopation and the South African tradition of gum boot dance. Students created these Step routines, learned very complex rhythmic steps and rehearsed and polished them for the semi-finals.  Ten teams made it into the final round and performed on the main stage in the auditorium in front of the whole year group and a panel of 7 judges. Judges marked students on creativity, formation, disciplined body position, clear tempo and three distinct polyrhythms.
