St George's Summer Fayre 2016

20 June 2016

At last the sun made an appearance just in time for St George’s Second Summer Fayre which took place on Saturday 18th June. St George’s chairman Mr Mark Turner opened the Summer Fayre and gave his final speech before stepping down as chairman. Mr Turner has been the Chairman of the St George’s Board of Governors for over 7 years, as a mark of gratitude for everything Mr Turner has done for the school, Mr Barkei presented him with a special token of appreciation. Mr Christopher Cheeseman, St George’s vice-chair has stepped up to the challenge and is looking forward to becoming St George’s new Chairman as of next academic year.

This year’s Summer Fayre welcomed over 500 friends and staff to part-take in the festivities. Over 15 national stalls were set up selling a wide range of delicious foods and unique goods reflecting St George’s multicultural community. We had a British Isles stand selling afternoon tea and cakes, a Spanish stand selling delicious paella, an Asian stand selling typical crafts and sushi and so much more. The children loved the bouncy castles, the photo booth proved to be popular.

Performances from the drama, music and choir were outstanding and really portrayed our students’ talent from all year groups. Friends and family joined in on the fun and games and enjoyed the performances made by students.

A big thank you goes to the parent, student and staff volunteers running these stalls and putting on activities throughout the day.

Events like this reminds St George’s of how proud it is of having such an international and vibrant community.

Thank you to the students, performers, dancers and singers who performed for us and provided a wonderfully diverse day!
