St George's students experience the delights of reading and writing!

03 March 2016

Book Week is always a pleasure at our School.Pop your head around any classroom and you’ll either see children with their noses stuck in books, older students reading to younger students or students immersed in books! Reading is such an important part of the learning process, it helps exercise our brains, it can improve concentration, widen our vocabulary, develop imagination and so much more.

In honour of Book Week we had the privilege of welcoming author Mary Hoffman, a British author best known for her picture books Amazing Grace and Stravaganza.

Mary Hoffman shared a variety of her stories with the children and helped them understand the process of writing a book. The students were extremely proud and delighted to have the opportunity to show Mrs Hoffman their creative stories inspired by her famous books about Amazing Grace. At the end of each day, Primary students also had the opportunity to have their books signed by Mrs Hoffman.

During Book Week we also had the pleasure of Mrs Bovis hosting workshops for Early Years and Reception students. Mrs Bovis taught the children how to make miniature reading books using just one piece of paper.

A big "Thank You" goes to the parents who have taken the time to read to our students this week, to Mrs Bovis for her wonderful workshops and, of course, to Mrs Hoffman for her exquisite storytelling.

Quote from a parent: ''It was a lovely experience to share with the 1A children a nice story this morning.
Miss Pinnons and Mrs Mills, kindly welcomed me to the class and introduced me to the group.
All the children listened carefully during the story, raising respectfully their hands when they wanted to answer questions.''
