St George's offers child protection course with Robin Watts
31 March 2014
St George’s International School Luxembourg takes Child Protection very seriously. Last week Child Protection expert and consultant, Robin Watts, was once again invited to train staff, class representatives and Governors on Child Protection issues and how to safeguard students. The School was also pleased to be able to invite the Telstar Scouts and Sunflower Montessori Crèche to join in the seminars.
Robin Watts, a retired police officer who specialised in Child Abuse Investigation, now works as a training consultant for Kidscape UK, the first charity in the UK to be established specifically to prevent bullying and child sexual abuse. Mr Watts gave a very eye-opening training course reinforcing child protection awareness and encouraging good practice by understanding broad definitions of child abuse and neglect.
Mr Watts presented real-life cases from his previous work experience in order to help participants identify the warning signs of abuse as well as take appropriate action if they are suspicious that a child may be at risk from suffering harm. His course, which is CPD accredited, also helped participants put themselves in the shoes of an abused child in order to try and grasp an understanding of how a child would behave in certain situations.
St George’s reviews their Child Protection Policy annually. For more information about the charity Kidscape please visit www.kidscape.org.uk
