St George's hosts 2nd annual Comenius International Ball
24 March 2014
Anyone who attended the 2nd Annual Comenius International Ball would agree that the atmosphere was simply electric! Every one of the students had their dancing shoes on; jumping, twisting and jiving with their friends and teachers for hours. Dances included the cha cha, jive, waltz, and the list goes on. One of the highlights of the evening was when everyone took to the dance floor to show off their rehearsed moves to ‘Saturday Night Fever’ and ‘Shake a Tail Feather’ following Mr and Mrs Cooper’s lead.
Over 150 students attended the event as well as Governors, staff, parents and special guests from Austria, Hungry, Poland, Germany and Turkey who are partners in the ‘GREAT to be Happy’ (GREAT = Giving, Relating, Exercising, Appreciating and Trying out) project. Our Austrian guests wore traditional costumes and performed a special folk dance for everyone to enjoy.
The Make-a-Wish Foundation will receive the proceeds from the event, which included a raffle drawing – raising 400 euros – and photo cds which will be available for students to purchase.
St George’s students have been rehearsing in their P.E. lessons at school and have a done a great job mastering the classic dance moves. They even had the opportunity to choose an adult from the audience and show them how it was done!
Many thanks to everyone who took part, donated and helped to make this event thoroughly enjoyable and a worthy cause.
