St George's computing network project

03 December 2014

Firstly, the members of the Computing Club and Mrs. Mawhinney, would like to thank all the parents who donated computers and screens. Your generosity made this project possible.

The Computing network project within St George's started two years ago by Sixth Form students Sam, Georgios and Ru, and was continued over the course of this year by Georgios, who currently manages it this school year. We now run a club teaching the concepts of computing, as well as the programming language C++, a high-level computer language which is professionally used to create games and applications of all dimensions and purposes. We have currently covered all of the basic operations, such as variable types, if and else statements, and how to manage functions. We are learning a great deal in these lessons.

I personally am planning to create a program for my EPQ project using C++, and am very pleased to have these lessons to help me in learning such a diverse, universally applicable and respected language.

We are all very thankful to Georgios for being the pioneer in making sure that these lessons go ahead, with countless hours of his free time being dedicated to solving issues and ensuring the stability of the network, and I will be honoured to be joint-managing the network with Ru, when Georgios will sadly be leaving us next year to study at university, however we wish him the best of luck in his studies, and will be pleased to see him whenever he finds himself back in Luxembourg.
