St George's Book Week 2015
27 March 2015
What a week in the Primary school! Neil Griffiths, a renowned children’s author and creator of Storysack, enthralled students with his interactive and hilariously funny storytelling. Neil engaged the students' imaginations with his use of props, puppets and extras. He kept the students in fits of laughter, especially when he got the teachers and students involved as his props! He has a very innovative way of storytelling - the students particularly liked ‘Itchy Bear’; every time the bear was itchy he asked a member of the audience to rub sand paper together, another member was asked to munch on an apple to produce crunching sounds and one was even asked to act as a tree which the bear could use as a scratching post.
During one of his stories he encouraged the students to join in a ‘wiggle’ competition, where the champion ‘wigglers’ were selected to go to the front for a 'wiggle off'. Obviously the students found this all very hilarious and thoroughly enjoyed participating in such a crazy competition.
Book Week is an extremely exhilarating week for the students, it is such a pleasure to see so many children excited about reading. On Friday 27th March, all the Primary students made a wonderful effort by dressing up as their favourite book characters. The Principal, Dr Barkei took part by wearing his famous red and gold Dragon costume, joining in on lessons and taking photos with the students.
A big "Thank You" goes to the parents who have taken the time to read to our students, and of course to Mr Griffiths for being a wonderfully talented and humorous storyteller. He most definitely made books come alive for the children and has given them wonderful food for the imagination.
