Sowing Selfless Seeds Success!
27 September 2018
On Wednesday 26th September, St George’s International school Luxembourg hosted it’s very first Sowing Selfless Seeds charity event.
Four inspirational speakers from diverse backgrounds took to the stage to share their experiences and stories of kindness and selflessness.
Nimo, a soulful hip-hop artist and humanitarian was very popular amongst the younger members of the audience, his inspiring songs produced a positive buzz all around the auditorium. Nimo shared humble stories of his own life and the life of others, inspiring others to do the same. ‘When we plant seeds of love and kindness, no matter where we are, they bloom and become contagious, they start spreading and growing and we can’t stop it.’
Tessy Antony, founder of ‘Professors without Borders’ gave an inspiring talk on gratitude and appreciation, she shared stories of her two young sons, she spoke of how proud she is of their individual acts of kindness. Tessy also talked about her time in the military, and how those 6 years shaped her to be the person she is today, and made her appreciate the small things in life.
Inspirational author, Natalie Savvides’ motto is ‘it’s cool to be kind’, the running theme of her children’s book ‘Meet Henrietta Heartbeat’, Natalie spoke of the characters she created; mascots of kindness and anti-bullying. ‘I am working to change the world through the next generations to hopefully minimise many of the problems rife amongst the youth of today… as everyone in the room is well aware, it is scientifically proven how acting with kindness improves our mental and physical health and our children need to live and breathe this.’
Angie Robinson addressed her studies on positive psychology. Through research it is proven that happiness is linked with doing acts of kindness. ‘When you do kind things it improves your mood, it has been proven from research that when you have an improved mood you do more kind things, it’s a give give situation.’
The event ties in perfectly with this year’s school theme of kindness and appreciation. Towards the lead up to this event St George’s students took on a 21 days of kindness challenge, they produced a tree which was present on stage featuring all the acts of kindness they have done.
The following day, students also took part in a Colour run around the school grounds in order to raise more money for the respective charities. It has been estimated that over 2000 euros has been raised so far through donations. Thank you to everyone who came to support this event, we hope you left feeling inspired to spread more kindness in this world.
