Playwright Mark Wheeller works with Secondary students

26 October 2015

On Thursday 1st October and Friday 2nd October, Mark Wheeller, UK playwright, came to work with students from Years 9,10 and 11.

He ran two days of fantastic workshops with students Looking in depth at extracts from his play "missing Dan Nolan" which students have been studying in Drama this term.

The play is based on a true story about a young man called Dan Nolan who went missing after going out night fishing with friends. The play explores the issue of friendship with the main theme being "stick together" and "look after one another, no one should be left on their own".

Students excelled themselves throughout the two days taking on the challenge of working as part of large groups to produce a creative response to the text, which Mr Fleet came to watch on the Friday.

Students were challenge to perform solo pieces and Lee (Year 10) was brave enough to volunteer to learn and perform an entire monologue from the script in only half a day. This is something even our Drama teacher Miss Williams would struggle to do, so a big well done to Lee.
