My Parents and their Job event
16 December 2020
St George's organised a virtual event where parents spoke to students about their careers, giving them an insight into working life and ideas for what they may want to study in the future. Below is a short article written Lauren in Year 8.
Exactly one week ago, we had the fantastic opportunity to listen to some great jobs. Multiple parents talked to us about inspiring jobs to give us a new perspective, and to inspire us. By listening to these adults talking about how much they treasure their jobs, it motivated me to want to get work that I actually like. Not something where I’ll just get money, it motivated me to want to get a job that will make me happy.
My understanding before listening to the parents was little, but after paying attention for one hour, and writing notes, I actually knew what these jobs were. This occasion was an exceptionally great one, by attending the lesson, I gained a much bigger understanding about what a banker does, what someone does when working in marketing and a project manager. Though there were many astounding jobs to learn about my personal favorite would be someone who works in marketing. If you ever get the chance like this, take it!
