Making maths fun and sustainable
13 November 2024
Every year, students from Year 8 create amazing inspirational maths games which they share with pupils from Year 6. This year they were challenged to make their games sustainable and build them using recycled materials in line with UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 “Responsible Consumption and Production”.
Students recycled cardboard and paper to build game boards, spinners, game pieces, tokens and one pair constructed a maths café with cookies and croissants. Other games included a dungeon where participants could trade their prizes, a Taylor Swift-themed contest, The Fame Game, Maths Pong, a maths version of snakes and ladders, and several where the correct answer to a question led to the added challenge of a basketball hoop or a penalty kick.
Everyone had a thoroughly enjoyable afternoon practising their maths skills without ever noticing.
