'GREAT to be Happy' Comenius Ball - A GREAT Success

01 April 2015

The final Comenius Ball took place on Friday 27th March - anyone who attended the ball would say it was an incredible way to bring the project to a close! Students and staff were jumping, jiving, quick stepping, waltzing and twisting all night long. The highlight of the event was the St George’s band 'George and the Dragons' playing a fantastic rendition of ‘All About That Bass’.

Three years ago St George’s International School had the great honour of being selected by Anefore as the first-ever school in Luxembourg to be the coordinating partner of an EU Comenius project. The Comenius project which was named ‘GREAT to be Happy!’ focusses on one of the major paradoxes of modern society: the young people of Europe have more material wealth than ever before but, according to research from the 'Action for Happiness' campaign, they are no happier than they were 50 years ago. The project addresses these issues and involves partners from Germany, Austria, Hungary, Poland and Turkey.

The ‘GREAT to be Happy!’ project embraces the 'Five Ways to Wellbeing’; Giving, Relating, Exercising, Appreciating and Trying out.

Throughout the project students have gained values and skills which will aid them to lead happy and successful lives, they have made positive contributions to society by taking part in events to raise money for charities, participating in new sporting activities such as ballroom dancing and engaging in cultural and environmental activities.
