Getting Settled

Everything you need to start your life in Luxembourg — all in one place

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Getting Settled Luxembourg?

Getting Settled is an event designed to help people settle quickly in Luxembourg and make the most out of living here. It puts newcomers in direct contact with the services, organisations and people who can help take the stress and guesswork out of starting their new lives here.

Who is it for?

The event is for everyone, but primarily those who are new to Luxembourg and in their first three to five years here. It’s for families, singles, young people, mature people, anyone who feels they still have something to learn about life in Luxembourg.

Why should someone attend?

People should attend to find out how to make the most of living in Luxembourg. Up to half of the population has moved to Luxembourg from somewhere else and many of us have made the same mistakes and come up against the same challenges. Our goal is to remove the guesswork, eliminate the nasty surprises and make the transition to Luxembourg life smooth and pleasurable.

What can people expect to learn?

Everything from how to finance a car and get a credit card, to finding a place to buy or rent, how to save on tax, what insurance you need, exploring Luxembourg’s hidden gems, how to make friends and build a community, how to navigate Luxembourg’s education offering, getting a taste for Luxembourg wines and how to stay healthy and active.

What types of exhibitors will there be?

We have banks, creches, healthcare providers, government services, the tourist office, wineries and food delivery services, insurance providers, relocation and estate agents, sporting clubs, community groups and more.

Will there be food and drinks?

There will be food trucks on site – burgers, Indian and Mexican.

Why is St George's hosting this event?

St George’s is an international community of students, staff and families from around the world. Just in our student body alone we have 73 nationalities, which suggests that many of our families have joined us from elsewhere. Our staff and families have a wealth of knowledge and experience when it comes to getting settled in Luxembourg and we wanted to share that, not just with our school community, but with anyone and everyone who is new here. We know what it’s like to be new in the country and we want to help people establish their communities and grow to love Luxembourg in the same way we have.

We also have a beautiful new building that is perfect for a community event such as this, so this is an ideal way to show it off.

When is it on?

Saturday, 14 March 2026, from 11:00 to 16:00.

Where is it on?

In the new Elsy Jacobs building at St George’s International School, in Hamm.

What is the best way to get there?

We recommend arriving by public transport. There are several bus stops close to the school and Cents-Hamm train station is a short walk away. Additionally, there is ample on-street parking around the school.

Will this be an annual event?

Yes, we certainly hope it will become an annual event. We have had a fantastic response from exhibitors, and a lot of encouragement and support from businesses, organisations and service providers.
