Footballers show great team spirit
21 June 2023
Two Primary football teams from St George's faced off against Michel Lucius on Tuesday, 20th June.
The girls, from Years 5 and 6, got off to a flying start, scoring two early goals to take the lead. Our opponents did not let the early lead deter them and came back strongly. After scoring on a penalty, they started to control the game and quickly scored another goal to tie the game at two. As the game wore on, both teams continued to create chances, however it looked like the game was heading towards a draw. In the final minutes, the Michel Lucius striker received a through ball and shot the ball past our goalkeeper to give them the victory. The game was certainly entertaining and St George's will learn lessons from the match and continue to strive to improve.
In a hard-fought match, St George’s boys, also from Years 5 and 6, suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Michel Lucius. Despite the loss, the team showed great fighting spirit and did not give up until the final whistle. Led by Simon P, our standout goalkeeper, who made many crucial saves to keep us within reach and give us hope at mounting a comeback, St George’s couldn’t capitalise on the shots taken on goal. Despite the loss, we can take heart from the team's performance, as they showed great determination and resilience throughout the match. They fought hard and never gave up.
