Carefully constructing castles
12 October 2022
Year 2 students enjoyed a junk-modelling lesson, building castles out of cardboard and other materials to support their unit on 'castles and knights'.
The students carefully crafted their structures, ensuring each one had the essential elements of a castle, such as arrow slits, turrets and other defence mechanisms.
Teacher Mrs Firth said the junk-modelling lesson helped to broaden and deepen the students' understanding of the features of a castle, their defence capabilities and geographical locations.
"We used a selection of ‘junk’ to create our castles, displaying our understanding of their features including battlements, turrets, towers, drawbridges and a portcullis. Over the coming weeks we are looking forward to adding a base to select a geographical location and possibly visiting a castle," she said.
