Dissection an eye-opening experience

Year 8 students have been learning about light during science lessons. The topic includes how a mirror works, how a lens works and how we see.

After studying the parts of the eye, students had an ‘eye-opening’ experience – they worked in pairs to dissect a pig’s eye.

They demonstrated their dexterity as they carefully used the tools to open the organ. Students explored the anatomy of the eye and described the parts they discovered such as the optic nerve, cornea and the pupil.

When they located the lens, they removed it from the eye and used it to magnify a sample of text. The class thoroughly enjoyed the hands-on experience.
