Students discuss climate work with Green-Up Gambia

  • Eco News

Year 5 students welcomed Kemo Fatty, founder of Green-Up Gambia, into school in November to speak about his incredible work for the Great Green Wall of Africa.

Mr Fatty spoke about the Climate Circles projects with local schools in which thousands of trees are planted across the Gambia. So far, Green-Up Gambia has planted more than 30,000 complex trees and more than 100,000 mangroves to help deliver Gambia’s commitments to the Great Green Wall.

The students asked Mr Fatty about his work and shared their knowledge on the UN Sustainability Development Goals. Together they discussed actions we can take to become more sustainable.

The Year 5 teaching team is currently delivering the humanities topic “Me and my planet” and students are learning about carbon foot printing, UN COPs and the SDGs. They will also be running various projects to improve the sustainability of the school. Year 5 students recently designed postcards with messages for world leaders, which were handed out at COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan, by Luxembourg's Minister of Environment.
